Who is Angie Haze?

Angie Haze isn’t just a singer-songwriter; she’s a sonic architect, a storyteller who bends time and genre with her evocative sound. An award-winning, queer-fronted act, Haze crafts music for the survivor—giving voice to those who have endured childhood sexual abuse and sexual violence. Her songs are anthems of resilience, a call to the unheard, and a force for change.

TEDxAkron Q&A with Angie:

Q: What do you love most about working/living in Akron?

What I love most about living and working in Akron is feeling like I am a part of one of the world’s secret gems. Akron has so much diversity, culture, art, music, nature and history still being discovered and it’s always inspiring to share space with the people here.

Q: What do you think you’re most known for, and what might surprise people the most about you?

I’m probably most known by people here as a singer-songwriter. And maybe it would surprise people that I struggled with stage fright and avoided public speaking at all cost for years.

Q: Where are places in your life (especially in Akron) where you feel like you're always "shaking the rules" a little bit?

As far as “shaking the rules”… I feel like the entire way I’ve lived my life is in that way… breaking cycles, patterns, challenging myself and any common ideas etc. so that I can continue to learn and grow. I don’t think it’s a surprise to most that I march to the beat of my own drum.

Q: What's your favorite quote or mantra and why?

Favorite mantra right now: “Become no one so that you can find yourself in everyone. Become nothing so that you can find yourself in everything.” It’s kind of my own mantra that was inspired by different teachers which resonated with me while working through a very difficult time in my life.

Q: What is the one thing you’re looking forward to the most as a future TEDx speaker?

I think I’m most looking forward to the process of creating this piece I’m working on for TEDxAkron. I could not have asked for a more perfect outlet. I’m excited and so grateful for the opportunity and to whatever doors may open.
